Gallop, Johnson & Neuman's patent attorneys have extensive experience in counseling business owners and individuals on their inventions and patents and advising clients with respect to patentability, the possibilities of patent infringement and patent validity, with special expertise in management of large, international, intellectual property portfolios.  Our experience and expertise includes the preparation, filing and prosecution of patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (commonly referred to as the "USPTO"), a highly specialized practice that may be performed only by those who have been licensed to do so by the USPTO.

A license to practice before the USPTO requires special technical or scientific training, such as obtained by earning an engineering or science degree, as well as a showing of competency in patent practice as established by either several years of experience as an examiner in the USPTO or a passing grade on a special patent bar examination.  Fewer than 3% of licensed attorneys in the United States are registered to practice before the USPTO.  Each of Gallop, Johnson & Neuman's patent attorneys is licensed by and registered to practice before the USPTO.

GJN’s seasoned patent practitioners have many years of experience preparing, filing and prosecuting patent applications covering a wide range of technologies and scientific arts including those in the mechanical, electrical, computer, chemical and biotech areas.  In addition, GJN’s experience extends to filing and prosecuting patent applications not only in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, but in other patent offices throughout the world.  The vast network of patent law firms with whom we have forged close business relationships over decades of service provides clients expertise and high quality patent law services in virtually every country in the world.

In addition to prosecuting patents, GJN attorneys counsel clients in the following areas:

Prior Art Searching

GJN lawyers can provide searches for clients to help determine whether meaningful patent claims are obtainable.

Patent License Agreements

GJN lawyers regularly counsel licensors and licensees in negotiating and preparing license agreements.

Product Clearance

GJN provides opinions to clients on whether their products, methods or systems infringe valid patents.  Many clients seek this type of advice before making or selling a new product.  GJN also searches for existing patents to avoid inadvertent infringement on the part of a client.  GJN lawyers can provide detailed opinions of its findings.

Infringement Opinions

GJN lawyers provide analyses and opinions as to whether another infringes a client’s patent.  GJN is equipped to conduct a detailed analysis of machines, devices, compositions and processes used by third parties.  If infringement exists, GJN’s patent litigation lawyers can help clients enforce their patent rights.
